Editore: While Meyer was imprisoned, his son, Sid Luckman, rose to national fame as a Hall of Fame quarterback for the Chicago Bears, occasionally visiting his father in secret. Meyer died in prison on January 23, 1944, at the age of 67. He passed away in the Sing Sing Prison Hospital due to a chronic heart ailment after serving roughly eight years of his life sentence., New York City, 1937

CITY OF NEW YORK OFFERS REWARD OF $1,000 FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF IKE LUCKMAN CHARGED WITH BRIBERY AND CONSPIRACY [Mugshot Photo 1934] [Mugshot Photo 1932] SETTLED SETTLED JUL 1940 JUL 1940 Ike Luckman (Facsimile Signature) DESCRIPTION: - Age, 53 years; height, 5 feet, 6 inches; weight, 200 pounds; brown eyes and hair; wears eye-glasses, no rims; face slightly pock-marked; speaks Yiddish and English; wears good clothes and is a neat dresser. RIGHT HAND [Five Fingerprint Impressions] LEFT HAND [Five Fingerprint Impressions] Departmental recognition will be given to any police officer who provides information leading to the arrest of this defendant. We hold an information warrant charging Luckman with Bribery and an indictment warrant charging him with Conspiracy. Kindly search your Prison Records, as this man may be serving a sentence for some minor offense. This man has diabetes and is believed to be a user of insulin. Druggists and doctors in your locality may be able to identify him. If located, arrest and hold as a fugitive from justice, and advise Detective Division, by wire. LEWIS J. VALENTINE Police Commissioner TELEPHONE: SPRING 7-3100" The purple ink impression "SETTLED JUL 1940" across the front indicate that the circular was resolved when the precinct officially cleared the case. The Drukman Murder Scandal. Ike Luckman was a prominent partner in the multi-million-dollar Luckman Brothers trucking firm in Brooklyn. On March 3, 1935, his brother (Meyer Luckman) and nephew (Harry Luckman) beat and strangled a relative, Samuel Drukman, inside their company garage. Police caught the killers red-handed, covered in blood at the scene. However, because of the family's extensive mob ties and political clout, a corrupt grand jury unexpectedly refused to indict them, triggering a public uproar. The Bribery Plot: Governor Herbert Lehman appointed a Special Prosecutor to investigate the corrupt dismissal. Investigators uncovered a $13,000 to $20,000 bribery fund engineered to pay off police detectives, local lawyers, and political fixers to tamper with the jury. Ike Luckman was identified as the main bagman who withdrew and funneled the cash. Before he could be apprehended, the fugitive, Ike, fled New York. This circular was broadcast nationwide by Police Commissioner Lewis J. Valentine to track him down. Ike successfully evaded the police for nearly four years as a fugitive. As highlighted by the pink precinct stamp on your flyer, he finally surfaced and surrendered to his attorney, in March 1940. He subsequently pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges later that year. The red "SETTLED" stamps add unique historical provenance, proving it was actively utilized inside a police station archive. Ike Luckman was sentenced to one year in the penitentiary and ordered to pay a $500 fine. Because he was in very poor health - suffering severely from the diabetes mentioned on the wanted poster - the execution of his prison sentence was repeatedly postponed by the court. Meyer Luckman (His Brother / The Mastermind) was sentenced to 20 years to life for second-degree murder in 1936. He spent his sentence as inmate #91674 at the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, New York. . . (illustratore).
