Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents an overview of agricultural practices and colonization in German East Africa as of 1901. The author's primary sources include meteorological records and reports by administrators across the then-colony. Annual rainfall data is shared for much of the country, and the impact of drought and excessive rainfall on crops such as sorghum, rice, and coconut is analyzed. The impact of the matama disease on the harvest is described along with efforts by the government to encourage replanting with other crops such as sesame and peanuts. Records of livestock herds are included and the author touches on the impact of imported cattle on the local stock. The book provides valuable insight into the agricultural and economic development of German East Africa at the beginning of the 20th century. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
