He graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of St. Petersburg University. Ostrogorsky taught the history of Russian and universal literature in the capital's gymnasiums, in women's pedagogical courses (1869 - 1892), in the Elizavetinsky Institute, in Smolny, in a theatrical school. The work includes brief biographies of Lomonosov, Fonvizin, Derzhavin, Karamzin , Zhukovskiy, Krylov, Griboedov, Pushkin, Maykov, Koltsov, Lermontov, Gogol, Grigorovich, Goncharov, Ostrovskiy, Turgenev, Nekrasov, Dostoevskiy, Pisemskiy, Tolstoy. Half leather binding is slightly rubbed, the paper is in very good condition unless the page with the portrait of Derzhavin with minor ink marks.
