20.5x11 cm. Illustrated tinted wrappers, spine gone, some contents loose, bottom of front wrapper and back wrapper chipped. 48 pp. Timetables and promotional material for the Union & Central Pacific. 7 pages of maps show the lines and connections across the country. Publications using the names of both of these railroads together are rarely seen as they operated separately and never had common ownership. The Central Pacific was merged into the Southern Pacific in 1885. This brochure appears to be intended to counter the competition to the West Coast from the Northern Pacific Railroad in particular, highlighting its connections to places served by the Northern Pacific, such as Yellowstone Park, Idaho and Montana, and noting how much shorter its routes were to the alternatives. In spite of its somewhat rough condition, this is a very scarce, unusual publication. OCLC 10297352 (4 loc.).
