In queste pagine, ragionate e amorevolmente arricchite di immagini, dettagli, fonti bibliografiche, si dipana il racconto delle procedure adottate per realizzare riproduzioni di pregio, delle soluzioni ideate per superare le difficoltà pratiche, ma traspare anche una interessante riflessione sul rapporto che abbiamo con ciò che i nostri lontani antenati hanno lasciato, e su come dovremmo interpretarlo. Nella prospettiva di chi lavora con le mani, la conoscenza passa imprescindibilmente per l'esecuzione: un "imparare facendo" che rende il ruolo dell'artigiano persino più rilevante di quello dello studioso, nel momento in cui la replica di un manufatto non ha più solo lo scopo di fornire dati scientifici su come esso sia stato creato, ma quello di inseguire il significato del gesto, la contemplazione, l'avvicinamento alle logiche della natura, elementi che sono rimasti immutati nei millenni. Leggere le parole di Pacini, insomma, è come ascoltare la Storia da qualcuno che ci è stato. "La storia dell'umanità, l'idea stessa di umanità sono astrazioni. Molto meglio limitarsi a tentare di conoscere, anche solo in parte, singole manifestazioni dell'attività umana del passato, i frammenti di quello che fu il loro ciclo vitale". Libro.
