SUBTITLED : ` Early Ranch history of Western Canada '. 207 pages of cowboy memories that rteads like a Who's Who of the western prairies. Sure there's Ware and Burns and Cochrane - but theres also Bews, Macleay and Bally Buck. The place names sound like a western movie set: Cayley, Neutral Hills and Pekisko Creek. The author was a brands inspector so much of the work is dedicated to the passing along, through history, of each brand - think OH, Open Gate and Flying U. The lead author passed away just before the work was published, so his widow completed the project and wrote the revised edition. A few b/w photos assist text. Learn about : rough-stock, Oldman River, Rangeman's Dinner, bedroll, and night-hawk. Cond : Paper wrapper is off-white with red lettering. Front cover photo features Hank - circa 1959 . Volume is tight, bright, square and clean. Excellent history shelf item. Collectible ! Quote (p. 74) : " During the years that Dan Riley was raising a family and farming on the homestead, he registered the cattle brand, ` Flying U Bar' on the right hip. The original registration date of the brand shows it was first allotted to Dan E. Riley of High River on September 29th, 1898. Riley sold his ._._._. ." Size: 8vo.
