Experiments are conducted on a pin/ball-on-disk apparatus on different types of ball materials such as austenitic stainless steel SS304 and austenitic stainless steel SS316 sliding against EN-31 disk. The experiments are performed on a group of specimens for duration of 5 min for various loads of 10,15 and 20 N in magnitude with sliding velocity of 1,1.5,2 m/s. The results show that the frictional force varies with duration of rubbing, normal load and sliding velocity. In general, frictional force increases for a certain duration of rubbing and after that it remains constant for the rest of the experimental time. The results obtained reveal that the frictional force increases with the increase in normal load for all the tested materials. It is also found that frictional force increases with the increase in sliding velocity for all the materials investigated. For the same operating condition, the magnitudes of the frictional force and wear rate are different for different materials depending on normal load and sliding velocity. 56 pp. Englisch.

Este trabajo del proyecto es para optimizar el diseño de la herramienta en forma de L y para estudiar el patrón de flujo, la distribución de la densidad de corriente, el perfil de velocidad, el patrón de temperatura, la turbulencia y el cambio de forma final de la superficie de la pieza de trabajo. Se evalúan cuatro modelos con diferentes ranuras de forma para el suministro de electrolito. Se utilizó el software ANSYS-CFX para simular este problema de CFD. El modelo geométrico consiste en una pieza de trabajo circular hecha con hierro, 20% de solución salina como electrolito y una herramienta de cobre en forma de L con diferentes tipos de ranuras. Este problema se considera como un problema de estado estable con el modelo de turbulencia. Se aplica una diferencia de potencial de 10V entre el IEG. Due to improper tool design of complicated shapes, there are chances of passivation and boiling of electrolyte in ECM process that causes poor machining. This project work is for optimizing the design of L-shaped tool and to study the flow pattern, current density distribution, velocity profile, temperature pattern, turbulence and final shape change of workpiece top surface. Four models with different shaped grooves for supplying electrolyte are evaluated.ANSYS-CFX software was used for simulating this CFD problem. Geometrical model consists of a circular workpiece made with Iron, 20% brine solution as electrolyte and L- shaped copper tool with different kind of grooves. This problem is considered as a steady- state problem with turbulence model. A potential difference of 10V is applied in between the IEG.
