Four different approaches (SRR, MRS, CBD and MCR2) have been applied, which all led to the development of new MCRs and higher order MCRs, thereby addressing both molecular diversity and complexity. Present work is mainly based on literature review done for the research work. From the first ever reported multicomponent reaction (by Strecker in 1850) to modern multicomponent synthesis is included in the work. O DOS requer o desenvolvimento de novas metodologias que geram diversidade de andaimes, para além da diversidade de apêndices e estereoquímicos. Os MCR têm demonstrado ser extremamente úteis para o DOS, uma vez que estas reacções geradoras de complexidade podem ser facilmente combinadas com várias reacções de ciclização de seguimento, resultando na rápida síntese de diversos andaimes (heterocíclicos). Além disso, novas estratégias de concepção de MCR surgiram como ferramentas importantes para gerar a diversidade de andaimes. Quatro abordagens diferentes (SRR, MRS, CBD e MCR2) foram aplicadas, o que levou ao desenvolvimento de novos MCR e MCR de ordem superior, abordando assim tanto a diversidade molecular como a complexidade. O trabalho actual baseia-se principalmente na revisão bibliográfica feita para o trabalho de investigação.
