Dhaka may be one of the most densely populated cities in the world - noisy, grid-locked, short on public amenities, and blighted with sprawling slums - but, as these stories show, it is also one of the most colourful and chaotically joyful places you could possibly call home. Slum kids and film stars, day-dreaming rich boys, gangsters and former freedom fighters all rub shoulders in these streets, often with Dhaka's famous rickshaws ferrying them to and fro across cultural, economic and ethnic divides. Just like Dhaka itself, these stories thrive on the rich interplay between folk culture and high art; they both cherish and lampoon the city's great tradition of political protest, and they pay tribute to a nation that was borne out of a love of language, one language in particular, Bangla (from which all these stories have been translated).

We will bring ten unique short stories from this overwhelming, vibrant, capital city to English-reading audiences in the next installation of our popular 'Reading the City' series. Dhaka is the capital city of Bangladesh, which emerged as a nation state in 1971 after a violent struggle for independence from West Pakistan. Bangladesh and Dhaka have a very complex political and social history and an incredibly rich and varied cultural inheritance. Comma are very excited to bring a host of short stories in translation to a new audience.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -A renewed interest has been seen among the farmers of Mymensingh to use the wastewater for their agricultural production. Bases on the population of the studied area, it seems that a large amount of waste water is always available in the periurban areas providing a reliable water supply for the farmers. Wastewater increases soil fertility resulting in the increased agricultural production with no cost. It is found that significant amount of pollutants can be reduced by simply passing the wastewater through the channel containing water hyacinth. Various parameters related to the nutrients such as NH4, PO4, TDS, EC were studied and their correlation with the productivity is established. The increased value of pH reduces the acidity of the soil resulting in the increased productivity. Similarly, yield was reported to be increased with the decrease of total solids in the wastewater. The amount of NH4 in the wastewater has direct correlation with correlation with the yield. Higher NH4 was observed to inhibit the plants growth and hence the lower yield. 124 pp. Englisch.
