Es handelt sich um ein kleines praxisorientiertes Repertorium, das sich auf die Symptome beschränkt, die einen klaren Zeitbezug bezüglich ihres Auftretens haben. Bei der Suche nach Symptomen im Repertorium ergibt sich häufig die Frage, in welchem Kapitel man das gesuchte Symptom findet. Mit Hilfe von Patels kleinem Hilfswerk kann der Therapeut sehr schnell über die alphabetische Sortierung innerhalb der einzelnen Kapitel (vor, während und nach) das gesuchte Symptom ermitteln. Ihm bleibt so die Suche nach dem richtigen Kapitel im Repertorium erspart. Als Basis für das Werk dient die 6. Auflage des Kent Repertoriums in der von Patel korrigierten Version, das auch heute noch als eines der verlässlichsten Repertorien gilt.

"Preface: We find in our Materia Medica alternating symptoms. It was difficult to classify them at first, but later on Dr. Boenninghausen classified tehm among Concomitants. Dr. Hahnemann also noticed these symptoms both in provings as well as in the patients. He regarded som of these as rare, peculiar, chracteristc, uncommon symptoms and others as common particulars and common generals. Dr. Kent included them in uncommon and common generals adn partciulars. We find these in Boger-Boenninghausen s repertory as concomitants throughout, while in Kent s they are recorded from generals to particulars. I consider that they usually are uncommon, peculiar, rare and characteristic symptoms but at times these are related to certain organs, parts of the body. They help us in giving us a casting vote in the final selection of the Similimum. But we have to remember that if we prescribe on these symptoms without considering the totality we are liable to fail frequently. If the remedy which stands for a certain alternating symptom also comes through kent s generals, it will definitely act in teh direction of cure. If in a case we find that the majortiy of the symptoms are of minor character but thsere are a couple of these alternatign szymptoms, then in that case our selection will be based on them, only. Sometimes these alternating symptoms may unlock complicated case whtn it belongs to the Chronic miasmatic diseases. If intelligently used these will always help us in our work of curing."
