Seit den Anfängen unserer Verfassung gibt es unter den Gelehrten unterschiedliche Meinungen über die wahre Natur der indischen Verfassung; die meisten westlichen Denker haben die indische Verfassung immer wieder als einheitliche oder quasi-föderale Verfassung bezeichnet. Diese besonderen Merkmale, die von den Bauern in die Verfassung aufgenommen wurden, sind jedoch auch anderen Verfassungen oder Föderationen nicht fremd. Ein genauer Blick auf die anderen Föderationen zeigt, dass die in der indischen Verfassung vorgesehenen Besonderheiten auch in der einen oder anderen föderalen Verfassung zu finden sind.
