Die vorliegende Studie widmet sich dem Leben und Werk Sawis und fragt insbesondere nach der Art und Weise seiner Avicenna-Rezeption. In der bisherigen Forschung wurde Sawi und sein Werk noch wenig beachtet; seine Stellung im Rahmen der Avicenna-Rezeption wurde dabei allerdings unterschiedlich bewertet: In einigen Arbeiten wird er als eigenständiger und innovativer Philosoph beurteilt, während andere ihn ganz in der Tradition Avicennas verortet sehen. Ein genauerer Blick auf die arabischen und persischen Schriften Sawis zeigt, dass er als einer der ersten damit begonnen hat, das vielfältige Werk Avicennas zu harmonisieren, und dabei auch Elemente von Philosophiekritikern wie azali miteinbezogen hat.
