Il s'agit d'étudier comment une langue telle que le français nous permet de concevoir et d'exprimer la répétition d'événements, d'états, de périodes. Cette question, traditionnellement formulée en termes « d'aspect itératif », se décline en une série d'interrogations particulières : quelle serait la nature, lexicale ou grammaticale de cet « aspect » Quel rapport entre itération et pluralité nominale Quels sont les « déclencheurs » ou, plus généralement, les « sources » de l'itération Quelles représentations sémantiques et comment les calculer . Les réponses ici présentées ont été élaborées dans une approche pluridisciplinaire guidée par des principes communs. Nous proposons d'abord une analyse linguistique capable de rendre compte d'énoncés itératifs très complexes (empruntés à Flaubert et Proust). L'appareillage informatique des « modèles objet » permet de donner corps à une appréhension conceptuelle de l'itération, articulant points de vue générique et extensionnel.
