The endpapers are age yellowed and the first free page has some numbers and the word "fic +". The frontispiece is of Benjamin Franklin with the tissue paper still in place. The only date found to date, in this books is at the end of the introduction by Paul L. Ford and it is stated Dec.16, 1889 Brooklyn, N.Y. The interior is age yellowed, but in very good shape for its age.

Josephus starts his account with events in the second century B.C., i.e., in the intertestimentary period, and links them with the fateful years AD 66~74. Josephus retired to Rome after the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem and there related the tragic stages of the titanic struggle that he early regarded as a reckless attempt~led by the revolutionary Zealots who crushed the pacifist opposition and lost the war due to internal dissensions.
