Printed wrappers, oblong 8vo, unpaginated, [28] pp, ills. 29 items. From the introduction - "This catalogue lists a number of works which are somehow related to the vitruvian tradition, and a few of the more common Vitruvius editions [mostly in less common copies, because of condition or provenance], arranged In chronological or…der. Some of the notes are longer and wordier than is my wont. This has rather convoluted reasons. First: I have a large collection of Vitruvius editions [also for sale], and I like to show off. Second, and more Important: the modem bibliographers of Vitruvius have probably been well- meaning but certainly incompetent - neither Bodo Ebhardt nor Laura Marcucci could tell the difference between a duodecimo and an octavo, or much else about what makes one book different from another. Last: several of the books in this list are regarded as 'well known', which means their usual catalogue note Is an often irrelevant quote from Fowler or the simpleiIdiocy of taking for granted that De Cusa elaborated on Frontlnus, Sagredo gave us the first Spanish translation of Vitruvius, Mauderc in 1566 compared the orders of Vignola with the as yet unpublished ones of Palladio and Scamozzl, and the Elzevier encyclopedia of 1649 Is just another Vitruvius [and its editor an official In the Dutch East India Company, which of course explains why most of his other work Is about the Americas].; Nothing said in this catalogue is at all new or important - it just seemed nice to try and set a few records that little bit straighter than they have, in time, become. I can but hope that In the process I have not added too many idiocies of my own." Wrappers a little marked, otherwise Good. Printed price-list laid in.
