Rare mystery story concerning an Anglo-Indian bastard who arrives in England to abduct and extort money from his grandfather the Vicar. Sherer commented elsewhere: 'I see it was printed at the Pioneer Press at Allahabad; but why I went to the necessary expense . escapes me . and with the assistance of my good friend, Wm. Brown the bookbinder [of Bath], have put it into presentable shape'. Sherer 1823-1911 served as a district judge in the Bengal Civil Service 1846-77. He later wrote a number of multi-volume novels, all of which are very scarce.
