Paperback. Condizione: New. This collection features five peer-reviewed literature reviews on conservation tillage in agriculture. The first chapter reviews types of tillage and soil disturbance and how different soil management techniques affect the cropping cycle. The chapter also discusses how soil disturbance can be minimised… during key farming operations. The second chapter describes the principles of Conservation Agriculture (CA), looking primarily at soil management. It also examines the key concepts of no-tillage agriculture, as well as the environmental and economic benefits these techniques offer. The third chapter discusses the role of conservation tillage in organic farming, reviewing over 20 years of practical, on-farm research. It outlines the main benefits associated with conservation tillage, whilst also considering the challenges that arise with its implementation and how these can be addressed. The fourth chapter explores the emergence of conservation tillage (CT) as an innovation to address stagnant wheat yields in the Indo-Gangetic Plains of South Asia. The chapter explores the benefits of CT for soil health and crop yields, and highlights current obstacles facing region-wide adoption of CT.The final chapter reviews the advantages of zero-till maize cultivation, including reduced soil erosion and nutrient losses. It also summarises best management practices to optimise zero-till maize systems.

Sansan (Gers, France) is an exceptional site of the Middle Miocene age (ca. 15 Ma), and a hot spot for the biodiversity of this period. Since its discovery in 1834, tens of thousands of fossils have been collected there, documenting nearly 200 animal and plant species, most of which are the locality of reference. This richness and diversity have earned Sansan the choice of the reference deposit for zone MN 6 (Middle Miocene) of the mammalian biochronological scale of the European Neogene, scientific recognition that goes far beyond the limits of our continent. Since Edouard Lartet's monograph in 1851, Sansan fossils, especially mammals, have been the subject of numerous studies and have served as comparative material for the determination of fossils found in Europe and elsewhere. The interest of paleontologists in the fauna of Sansan and the evolution of knowledge on the systematics and phylogeny of current and fossil vertebrates have made it essential to update our knowledge of the fauna of this site. Undertaken twenty years ago by Léonard Ginsburg, the exhaustive review of the fauna and flora of Sansan resulted in the publication, in 2000, of a first volume presenting the history, geology, flora, invertebrates and non-mammalian vertebrates of the deposit. This second volume presents the first review of Sansan's mammalian fauna since Henri Filhol's monograph in 1890. The 16 chapters that make up this memoir provide a detailed review of the vast majority of the 80 species known to Sansan (Chiroptera, Rodentia, Artiodactyla, Perissodactyla, Carnivora, Primates) as well as a paleoecological analysis of the fauna. Paris. Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle. 709 pp., 1408 figs, hardcover 4 [22.0 x 27.5 cm] [in French].
