The upper part of what was clearly a two-page letter printed on both sides of a single leaf. Now 12.5 x 20 cm. Docketed in top left-hand corner of first page 'LB 11/5/99'. Responding to an offer of plates of some of her works. (According to one source Ward was the author of upwards of a hundred novels and short stories.) She sta…tes that 'the copyrights of those books of mine which have been published by Messrs. Ward and Downey [.] are in all cases mine', and out her permission. 'I should not, in any case, buy them myself: but if you like to let me know what plates you have, I will see if anything can be done in the way of selling them to another publisher, for the issue of the now popular cheap editions'.
