Trade Paperback. Condizione: Fine. Wyman, M.C.; Marvel Various (illustratore). Assumed First Edition. This wasn't the first time he had walked away. Steve Rogers, A.K.A. Captain America, living Legend of World War II, had forsaken the red-white-and-blue attire in Captain America #176, written by "Stainless" Steve Englehart and penciled by "Our Pal" Sal Buscema. The year was 1974, and Richard Nixon had resigned the presidency due to the cover-up of the Watergate burglary. Faith in America's political institutions was starting to plunge. Englehart had just completed a powerful storyline in Captain America #175 wherein Cap confronted the leader of the evil Secret Empire in the White House's Oval Office itself. That unnamed leader was a man of high political standing. Rather than face the consequences, he committed suicide in front of a shocked Captain America. This revelation caused Rogers to reassess his costumed role, and he ultimately decided to give it up. This lasted until Captain America #180 when Steve assumed a new identity-as Nomad, the Man Without a Country!

Donald Francis McGregor (born June 15, 1945) is an American comic book writer best known for his work for Marvel Comics; he is the author of one of the first graphic novels. With artist Paul Gulacy, McGregor created one of the first modern graphic novels, Eclipse Enterprises' Sabre: Slow Fade of an Endangered Species, a near-future, dystopian science fiction swashbuckler that introduced the title character. McGregor's work premiered in August 1978, two months before Will Eisner's better-known pioneering graphic novel A Contract with God. Sabre was additionally the first graphic novel sold through the new "direct market" of comic-book stores. It later spun off a 14-issue Eclipse comic-book series. Also for Eclipse, McGregor wrote Detectives Inc., a pair of graphic novels set in contemporary New York City and starring the interracial private eye team Ted Denning and Bob Rainier. Detectives Inc.: A Remembrance of Threatening Green (1980), with DC Comics artist Marshall Rogers, and Detectives, Inc.: A Terror Of Dying Dreams, with veteran Marvel artist Gene Colan, who would become a frequent collaborator, comprised the series. William Henderson Graham (July 1, 1935 ? April 4, 1997) was an African-American comics artist best known for his work on the Marvel Comics series Luke Cage, Hero for Hire and the Jungle Action feature "Black Panther". Graham illustrated issues #3?9 of McGregor's 1980s Eclipse Comics series Sabre, a spin-off of one of the first graphic novels. He also illustrated a story each by McGregor in Marvel's black-and-white horror-comics magazine Monsters Unleashed #11 (April 1975); an issue of the 1980s anthology Eclipse Monthly; and two issues of the black-and-white Eclipse Magazine. He was both writer and artist of the six-page story "The Hitchhiker" in Eclipse Magazine #5 (March 1982).

"The Siege is over, and the Heroic Age has begun. So what's next for Luke Cage and the New Avengers? Steve Rogers thinks he has the answer, offering Cage the reins of his own team and the keys to Avengers Mansion. Which heroes will Luke choose to join him, assuming he even wants the gig to begin with? He'd better decide soon, because the forces of evil are literally dropping out of the sky - and even a formidable trio of master mystics like Dr. Strange, Dr. Voodoo and Daimon Hellstrom are at a loss to stop it. It's time for Luke Cage and his New Avengers to step up, or their first mission may well be their last! Collecting NEW AVENGERS (2010) #1-6." (Verlagstext) The New Avengers are a team of superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The title has been used for four American comic book series. The first two were written by Brian Michael Bendis and depicted a version of Marvel's premiere superhero team, the Avengers. The third was written by Jonathan Hickman and depicted a group of characters called the Illuminati (formerly introduced in New Avengers vol. 1 #7, July 2005). The fourth is written by Al Ewing and depicts the former scientific terrorist group A.I.M., reformed as "Avengers Idea Mechanics", whose field team has appropriated the name "New Avengers" for itself. A version of the New Avengers debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film Thunderbolts* (2025), and are set to return in Avengers: Doomsday (2026). The New Avengers is a spin-off of the long-running Marvel Comics series The Avengers. The first issue, written by Brian Michael Bendis and penciled by David Finch, was dated January 2005 but appeared in November 2004. Finch penciled the first six issues and issues #11?13. Succeeding pencilers with multiple-issue runs include Steve McNiven, Leinil Francis Yu, Billy Tan, and Stuart Immonen. The roster at first comprises Captain America, Luke Cage, Iron Man, Spider-Man and "Spider-Woman" (Veranke). Later stretches included the mutant X-Man Wolverine, the unstable and godlike Sentry, and the deaf ninja Echo, in the guise of Ronin. The team itself was not named the "New Avengers" within the series. A splinter group of Avengers that chose not to comply with federal superhuman registration, the team considers itself the authentic Avengers. A concurrent government-sanctioned team gathered in the sister series The Mighty Avengers. This series launched in early 2007 and was itself supplanted by a different government-sanctioned team in the series Dark Avengers, which was launched in late 2008. At this time the team welcomed Clint Barton (recently returned from the dead) as Ronin, as well as Doctor Strange and Iron Fist. By the end of the first volume, the New Avengers team consisted of Ronin, Captain America (Bucky Barnes), Ms. Marvel, Mockingbird, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman (Drew), Wolverine, and team leader Luke Cage. Writer Brian Michael Bendis said in an interview that these characters are the authentic Avengers because Captain America said they were. This statement is repeated when the team, believing Captain America (Rogers) is alive, attempts to rescue him. Spider-Man claims that if they get Captain America back, they can call themselves Avengers again. Luke Cage contends that they are Avengers already. The series ended with The New Avengers #64 (April 2010), at the conclusion of the "Siege" storyline. A one-shot titled The New Avengers: Finale was also released. (Wikipedia) In englischer Sprache.
