Renée-Caroline-Victoire de Froullay de Tessé, Marquise de Créquy, née au Château de Montflaux à Saint-Denis-de-Gastines le 19 octobre 1714 et morte à Paris le 3 février 1803, est une femme de lettres française célèbre par son esprit. Elle se marie le 18 mai 1737, à la chapelle de l'hôtel de Lesdiguières, 10 rue de la Cerisaie, dans le IVe arrondissement de Paris, avec Louis de Blanchefort de Créquy, marquis de Créquy 1686-1741 (l'hôtel de Lesdiguières disparut en 1878). Leur fils est Charles-Marie de Créquy. Elle perd son mari dès 1741. Ses salons furent longtemps, et sous les régimes les plus différents, le rendez-vous de la bonne société. Les savoureux Souvenirs de la Marquise de Créquy, censés être de sa plume, semblent dus plutôt à celle de Maurice Cousin de Courchamps, ou du moins c'est à ce dernier, qui en brodant sur la trame de banals souvenirs véridiques, que nous devons les parties les plus géniales. Leur témoignage sur la noblesse du règne de Louis XV vient souvent contredire la mythologie forgée par les familles arrivées de la Monarchie de Juillet. On y voit défiler des personnages de grande et petite noblesse comme Madame de Maintenon ou Madame d'Urfé, des personnalités comme Voltaire ou Jean-Jacques Rousseau, mais aussi des aventuriers du XVIIIe comme le Comte de Saint-Germain, le Comte de Cagliostro, Casanova ou le Chevalier de Saint-George. Se fondant sur les références aux sources fictives citées par l'auteur pour appuyer ses dires, Quérard y voit un document apocryphe. Toujours est-il qu'on a là une fresque précise et colorée, à la fois légère et profonde, toujours juste et spirituelle, de la haute société de la fin de l'Ancien Régime. Contrairement à Saint-Simon, ou à La Bruyère, il n'y a chez Victoire de Froulay aucune aigreur ; le ton de conversation de sa plume, perlé d'une verve légère, toujours très juste, est sans doute le même que celui qui faisait de son salon l'un des plus recherchés de Paris. Bien que de peu de pages, cet opuscule est très important puisqu'il dénonce la supercherie concernant la publication des soi-disant Souvenirs de la marquise de Créquy publiés pour la première fois en 18534-1835 puis en 1855 (10 tomes in-18). Ces souvenirs ont été en réalité rédigés par Cousen, comte de Courchamps. Le relieur Fauconnier, bien qu'à l'évidence un très-habile relieur de son temps, ne figure pas dans le Dictionnaire de Fléty.
