Als Josef "Jupp" Perjell arbeitete er für die Wehrmacht und machte eine Ausbildung bei VW in Braunschweig. Als "Volksdeutscher" entging er so dem Holocaust. Geboren wurde er am 21. April 1925 in Peine, er starb 2023. Lange braucht Sally Perel dafür, seine Lebensgeschichte zu verarbeiten. Selbst seiner Familie berichtet er erst nach Jahrzehnten von seinem Schicksal, als er nach einer Herzoperation Mitte der 80er-Jahre ein Buch zu schreiben beginnt. Seine dramatische Lebensgeschichte des jüdischen Jungen, der es schafft, in der Haut - bzw. Uniform - des Feindes den Faschismus zu überleben, führte in Deutschland zu einem Sturm der Entrüstung.
