Er studierte längere Zeit mit dem Komponisten dessen Werke für Piano solo und wurde so zu einem der führenden Exponenten der Klavierstücke Ravels. Am 50. Todestag Ravels 1987 führte er diese komplett in London auf,daneben wurde er aber auch für seine Mozart- und Chopin-Interpretationen bekannt.
