(la Gageure a deux vignettes) 36 vignettes pour le deuxième volume, soit un total de 65 vignettes pour illustrer les contes de La Fontaine. 23 vignettes pour le troisième volume et 28 vignettes pour le quatrième et dernier volume. Soit un total de 51 vignettes pour les autres contes. 116 vignettes au total. Impression sur beau papier vergé blanc à pontuseaux horizontaux. Notre exemplaire contient en outre un feuillet volant avec une autre gravure pour le conte de La Fontaine intitulé Nicaise (p. 119/120) différente du tirage dans le volume et tiré sur papier légèrement azuré. Ces transpositions de vignettes étaient déjà signalées pour quelques contes de ces quatre volumes par le libraire Morgand et Cohen à la fin du XIXe siècle. Notre exemplaire est du très rare premier tirage avec la vignette pour Nicaise mal placée à la page 105 au lieu de la page 115. Ces exemplaires de premier tirage avec l'erreur signalée auraient été tirés à 60 exemplaires seulement (avant de se rendre compte de l'erreur et de corriger et continuer le tirage corrigé). Lire le détail signalé par Cohen dans son Guide de l'amateur de livres à vignettes du XVIIIe siècle (p. 859). On reconnait le second tirage (en réalité la quasi totalité des exemplaires) au fait qu'ils sont tirés sur un papier légèrement azuré (Cf. Miscellannées bibliographiques, pp. 148-150, par Asmodée (probablement Octave Uzanne ou un autre collaborateur de ce périodique). Reliure demi-maroquin corail à petits coins, dos lisses richement ornés aux petites fers dorés avec pastilles de maroquin noir dans les premiers et derniers caissons, filets dorés sur les plats, tranches dorées. Reliures tout à fait dans le goût des productions de Bozérian des premières années du XIXe siècle. Il s'agit cependant de reliures pastiches exécutées au XXe siècle par un des meilleurs imitateurs des relieurs de la période romantique, à savoir Bernasconi. Les reliures ne sont pas signées mais l'attribution ne laisse place à aucun doute. Ce sont seulement les feuillets de garde en papier vergé teinté d'évidence plus récents qui nous ont permis d'identifier ce pastiche. Intérieur très frais imprimé sur beau papier vergé. L'exemplaire n'a pas été lavé. Cette édition toujours attribuée à Cazin n'en n'est en réalité pas une (Cf. Jean-Paul Fontaine, Cazin l'éponyme galvaudé (Hexaèdre éditeur, 2012), p. 199. Cet ouvrage est inscrit dans la catégorie des faux Cazins. Quel éditeur-imprimeur a produit cette belle édition collective richement illustrée par de très jolies vignettes ? Pas Cazin d'après Jean-Paul Fontaine. Valade ? Un autre libraire parisien ? On a depuis les débuts attribué les vignettes à Duplessis-Bertaux (Cf. Bulletin Morgand n°1273 et divers) ; or on sait aujourd'hui que ces vignettes seraient de Durand et aussi de Duplessis-Bertaux et Dreppe (vignette signée tome IV, p. 15) comme l'indiquait Morgand à la fin du XIXe siècle. Elles ont été gravées avec une extrême délicatesse et le tirage est ici superbe.
