Neat, clean, well bound pages with very minimal foxing, tanning and thumbing. Small inscriptions and neat labels may be present. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. No poem, however simple it amy appear, is necessarily easy to recite; but some are obviously more readily understood than others, and my choice of pieces for this present volume has accordingly been in the direction of simplicity. I have included all sorts of selections, serious and humorous, thinking the the Young People who use this book will like to attempt varied recitation. They will find here, may a set of verses they have never read before; and I hope they will be glad to miss quite a number of pieces with which I fear they are only too familiar. The present collection naturally includes poems of national interest and inculcating nationa sentiment, but I also introduce from American and other sources recitations - some narrative, others humorous, and some of a homely character - many of which will I prove welcome to the Young Reader. This wonderful book is in good condition, normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. Some fading to spine, otherwise considering the book is over one hundred years old its in remarkably good condition. 848 pages, plus index pages, all intact and nice tight binding. First published in 1904, this book is the seventh edition published in February 1913, by George Routledge & Sons Ltd. Preface and Chapter 1 is an introductory to "The Art of Speaking". A fabulous book that helps understand the art of speaking in public, but also has some fascinating prose and verses from a variety of poets, and writers of that specific period of literature.
