Hardcover. Condizione: New. Text in English and Norwegian. Notes: Exhibition catalog. On the occasion of an exhibition held at Oslo, Kunstnernes Hus, January 30 - March 29, 2015. Description: 190 pages : illustrations ; 22 cm. 'In the summer of 2014, it was 100 years since the shots were fired in Sarajevo. The atrocities of the…First World War, with millions of dead soldiers in the miles of trenches, are part of the experience and memory of modernity. The Norwegian artists experienced the war through the news, as most artists do today. Henrik Sørensen was particularly engaged, and resigned, to the Norwegian press' unvarnished coverage of the ravages of war. Economic, rather than human, aspects were emphasized. Art's relationship to war and society has not diminished since then. Instead, it has become more intrusive. We read about bombing, violence, terror, war and grief. About millions of people on the run and how thousands of boat refugees risk their lives for a second chance in Europe. In November 2014, more than 3,000 people died on their way across the Mediterranean to the Italian island of Lampedusa. How should we deal with the wars and suffering of our time? And do artists have a special obligation? Through new source material, with paintings, photographs and drawings that have never been shown before, the role that war and rebellion have played for the artist and for the development of modern art is highlighted. The works committee is concentrated in three periods; 1920 - 40, 1960 70 and 2000 - 2014.'.
