Paperback. Condizione: New. This exhibition catalog explores the remarkable theatrical designs of Italy's influential Bibiena family in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. For nearly a century, members of three generations of the Bibiena family were the most highly sought theater designers in Europe. Their elaborate stage designs were used for operas, festivals, and courtly performances across Europe, from their native Italy to cities as far afield as Vienna, Prague, Stockholm, St. Petersburg, and Lisbon. Beyond these performances, the distinctive Bibiena style survives through their remarkable drawings.Architecture, Theater, and Fantasy commemorates a group of Bibiena drawings from the collection of Jules Fisher, the Tony Award-winning lighting designer, gifted to the Morgan Library and Museum in New York. Accompanying the first US exhibition of these works in more than thirty years, these drawings demonstrate the range of the Bibienas' output, from energetic sketches to detailed watercolors. Representations of imagined palace interiors and lavish illusionistic architecture illuminate the visual splendor of the Baroque period.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Draws on the Yale Center for British Art's rich collection to critically reconsider the vibrant creative exchanges between artists in India, China, and Britain during a period ruthlessly driven by commerce Painters, Ports, and Profits: Artists and the East India Company, 17501850 surveys the remarkable artistic innovations that emerged within the context of the British East India Company's commercial and militaristic expansion into India and China. Extending the term "Company Style" to encompass the broad range of work created within the imperial corporation's cross-cultural networks, this comprehensive exhibition catalogue celebrates the British, Indian, and Chinese artistsoften unknownwhose experimentation with papers, pigments, and other materials produced astonishing aesthetic diversity. Compelled by new subjects and techniques, so-called Company artists profoundly affected visual culture within and beyond Asia, challenging notions of asymmetric power dynamics at the apex of the East India Company's rapacious pursuit of profits. Edited by curators Laurel O. Peterson and Holly Shaffer, Painters, Ports, and Profits features more than one hundred objectsarchitectural drafts, burnished opaque watercolors, hand-colored aquatints, and small- and large-scale portraitsdrawn from the Yale Center for British Art's rich collection and includes new research from an international group of scholars, curators, and conservators. Distributed for the Yale Center for British Art Exhibition Schedule: Yale Center for British Art (January 8May 31, 2026) Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
