Widm., Ebd. berieben, Gbrsp. - Petöfi,(1823 - 1849), entstammte einer slowakischen Familie. Ab 1828 besuchte er die evangelische Elementarschule in Kecskemét und von 1833 bis 1834 das evan…gelische Gymnasium in Pest, anschließend bis 1835 das Piaristengymnasium und im Anschluss daran bis 1839 das Gymnasium in Aszód. Er verließ das Gymnasium, schloss sich einer Theatergruppe an und spielte in Statistenrollen am Nationaltheater. Von 1839 bis 1841 war er Soldat. Anschließend war er wieder als Schauspieler tätig und studierte in Pápa. Sein erstes Gedicht erschien 1842. Zwei Jahre später, nachdem er eine Stellung als Hilfsredakteur in Pest fand, veröffentlichte er seine erste Gedichtsammlung (1844). Von Anfang an forderte er in seinen Werken einen unabhängigen ungarischen Nationalstaat. Am 8. September 1847 heiratete er Júlia Szendrey, mit der er einen Sohn, Zoltán (geb. 15. Dezember 1848), hatte. Im Revolutionsjahr 1848 trat er an die Spitze der "Pester Jugend" und wurde einer der geistigen Führer der Märzrevolution. Am 15. Oktober 1848 wurde Petöfi Hauptmann beim Honvédbataillon in Debrecen. Nach einem Streit mit seinem Vorgesetzten diente er ab 1849 als Adjutant unter dem legendären polnischen General József Bem im ungarischen Freiheitskampf gegen die Habsburger. In der Schlacht bei Segesvár (Sighi?oara) fiel Petöfi um den 31. Juli 1849. (Zitat).
