Occasional mostly marginal worming…with no loss of meaning. Wraps. "The rare first edition printed in Italy of Musschenbroek's lectures, edited and posthumously published by Johann Lolofs. This Latin work (first: Leyden, 1762; Partington, II, 739) was 'widely used and translated into Dutch, English, French, and German.The experiments can be studied in [his] books which contain fine illustrations; they deal with the mechanics of rigid bodies, air pressure, heat, cohesion, capillarity, phosphorescence, magnetism, and electricity. Many of these experiments have become classics of elementary instruction' (D.S.B., IX, 595)" (Neville, Vol 2, p. 206 referring to the complete 2 volume set). Here with 29 of the 65 folding copperplates. Does not include the folding printed table or folding map showing California as an island (those are found in Volume 2, and one reason why this volume is sometimes found separately).
