Ridderstad var chefredaktör för och ägare till tidningen Östgöta-Correspondenten från 1842 till 1886 och erhöll boken i denna egenskap. Sara Pfeiffer (1829-1913), dotter till den vittre stadsläkaren i Göteborg Carl Gustaf Schönbeck och Sofia Vilhelmina Leche. Hon gifte sig 1857 med lantbrukaren Carl J. F. Pfeiffer och flyttade till Skåne. När denne fick ekonomiska problem inledde hon sitt populära författarskap för att försörja familjen och pulicerade 1864 sin första bok, "Fosterbarnet / Medaljongen. Tvenne berättelser". Efter makens död 1868 flyttade hon till Stockholm, där hon från 1880 drev ett lånebibliotek på Hornsgatan jämte sitt författarskap. Nordisk Familjebok skriver om detta: "Under signaturen Sylvia gjorde hon sig känd genom underhållande berättelser utan litterärt värde." Leijonhufvud & Brithelli 135.
