Philippe Bosquier (1562-1636), natif de Mons, était religieux récollet ; il s'était acquis la réputation d'un bon prédicateur.Ces deux ouvrages sont des recueils de sermons ; Bosquier y fait preuve d'une grande érudition, mais utilise en parallèle de nombreuses expressions grossières. On trouve notamment dans le second ouvrage tout un ensemble d'arguments sur le porc, le monstre des animaux.
