Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. A medieval study of Provencal poetry and culture through the lens of the life and work of the anonymous Monk of Montandon, a noted troubadour and satirist. The author analyzes the monk's poetry, some of which survives in the form of Sirventes, a type of Occitan lyric poem often used for political or personal attacks. The poetry is considered in its literary and historical contexts, with attention to the complex artistic landscape of 12th-century Occitania. The author also discusses the lively and often vicious culture of poetic rivalry and polemic that characterized the world of the troubadours. This book is significant for its insights into the life and work of a major but enigmatic figure in medieval Occitan literature. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
