An illustrated account of the "Golden Age" (as remembered by many of the islanders) o…f the flying boat services that operated between Sydney's Rose Bay to Lord Howe Island between 1947 to 1974. While the first flying boat to visit the island was a Royal Australian Air Force Catalina in 1942, the use of flying boats later became a more common practice. That first Catalina was sent to ensure the islanders retained connection to the mainland during World War Two, beginning a long association between the RAAF and the island, but also served to inspire the use of flying boats to launch tourism on the island after the war. This copy is signed by the author. Loosely inserted in this volume is a copy of an article from Australian Aviation, November 1999, titled The World's Last Flying Boat Service by Peter Phillipps. Signed.
