Prima edizione
Stapled Wraps. Condizione: Near Fine. Neil Austin, Cindy (Smith), Joe Gross, Alan Hunter, Ralph Rayburn Phillips, Dave Hammond (illustratore). First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1955. First edition. March, 1955 / issue number 8 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction). Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 38 pp. Near Fine; thin peripheral toning (see scans). This March / 1955 issue was published as Ron Smith was in the process of improving the fanzine, which had been erratic in quality in prior years; 1956, yet to come, would be perhaps the best year. This issue features two sci-fi stories, The Ship and Son, a relative rarity for the article-oriented fanzine; and probably its finest collection of illustrations to this point in time - thanks to the efforts of art editor Cindy Smith. The art includes a Neil Austin cover, illustrating the story The Ship, and interior work by Austin, Cindy (Smith), Joe Gross, Alan Hunter, Ralph Rayburn Phillips, and Dave Hammond. Stories, articles and reviews (see scan of contents page) are by Joe Gibson, William L. Freeman, Bill Hamling, William F. Nolan, Charles E. Fritch, Joseph Slotkin, George Martindale, and Bob Tucker, as well as editor Ron Smith. A rarity, for the collector. l-pr1.

First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1955. First edition. May, 1955 / issue number 9 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction). Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 46 pp. Very Good plus to about near fine; thin peripheral toning, tiny chip here and there (see scans). This May / 1955 issue was published as Ron Smith was in the process of improving the fanzine, which had been erratic in quality in prior years; 1956, yet to come, would be perhaps the best year. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Until very recently, genetic maps of higher plants were based almost entirely on morphological and biochemical traits. These maps are rapidly being replaced and/or supplemented with DNA-based marker maps based on the use of powerful new molecular techniques. The new high-precision maps can be developed with comparative ease and rapidity. They have a much higher density of markers, which allows revelation of more and more restricted segments of the genome. One of the many revolutionary aspects of this technology is that linkage between molecular markers and traits of interest can often be detected in a single cross. The ability to hybridize probe after probe to the DNA of the same individuals of a segregating population allows one to pursue the analysis until linkage becomes evident. With morphological and biochemical markers used previously, a separate cross was required to test linkage with each new marker. It was seldom that more than three markers could be tested for linkage with the trait of interest in a single cross because of viability problems. With the new techniques described in this volume, a new gene could be placed on the linkage map within a few days instead of the much longer time required with the previous techniques. In this book, a group of leading researchers provide background information and current versions of DNA-based marker maps for a variety of crops. These maps illustrate the state of the art today. Describes techniques which mean that a new gene could be placed on the linkage map within a few days instead of the much longer time required with previous techniques. This text provides background information and current versions of DNA-based marker maps for a variety of crops.
