Trade paperback. Condizione: Very good. Pickerell, James H. (Photographer) (illustratore). xviii, [2], 129, [3] pages. Illustrations. Index. Introduction by Malcolm W. Browne. New's photographer James Pickerell's account of the early years of the Vietnam War(1963-1966). Pickerell has written an honest and compelling first-hand account of the war in Vietnam, documenting it with more than a hundred vivid photographs. Jim began his career in 1963 as a freelance photojournalist in the Far East. Back in the states he pursued a career as a photographer. He filed outtakes from various assignments with several stock agencies. With changes in the U.S. copyright law in 1976 the demand for stock photography began to grow rapidly. In the early 80's Jim helped establish the Mid-Atlantic chapter of American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and served as Vice President, President and Program Chairman over a period of six years. He served on the ASMP national board for two years, and on the committee that produced the first ASMP Stock Handbook in 1983. Derived from a Kirkus review: You have probably seen a number of these pictures somewhere else--but all are worth looking at again and many, once seen, are not to be forgotten. One of the best freelance photographers, Pickerell has covered the war mainly from the foot-soldier's viewpoint, but he has done so throughout this entire devastated land, with a breadth of insight and compassion few others have been able to command. The text is much more than introduction to the photographs; Pickerell is convinced that the U.S. should stay in South Vietnam and can win, but he is equally positive that present tactics will only lead to failure. In blunt, simple terms, he enumerates what he feels to be our worst mistakes and sketches possible alternatives. In his laudatory preface to the book, Malcolm Browne predicts it will "raise hackles in certain quarters." This much is obvious; but neither Browne nor Pickerell is so naive as to expect it will change matters. Presumed first paperback edition/first printing.
