The author, a Captain in the Italian Cavalry Reserves, states in his preface that horsemen can be divi…ded into three categories -- (1) Regular officers and non-commissioned officers of the mounted arms; (2) Civilians who hav done compulsory military service in the mounted arms; and (3) Civilians with no military service. The first category, of course ranks highest in efficiency. The second class comes next in quality and the third class constitutes the mass of the amateur world; some are bad, some are good, a few excellent -- the last usually because they have had the good fortune to obtain proper training from a relative or friend who graduated from a cavalry school.'' This edition was limited to 850 copies printed by Eugene V Connett at the Derrydale Press. BINDING/CONDITION: dark green binding with gilt text and vignette; owner's name and small drawing, otherwise a Very Good book; no dust jacket. Huntington Press first edition - #365 of a limited edition of 950 copies (per rear colophon). xvi, 120 pages. Hardcover: H 25.25cm x L 19.25cm. No dust jacket present. Red cloth well soiled and stained; spine faded with gilt lettering dulled and fraying at ends; wear to lightly bumped board corners. Strong foxing/toning and some… soiling to endpapers; erasure muting child's crayon drawing on rear free endpaper; a few spots of soiling to interior pages. Binding is firm. Classic text on horsemanship by Italian Light Horse Cavalry Captain Piero Santini (he later achieved the rank of major) who was a proponent of the jumping techniques established by Federico Caprilli. This Huntington Press limited edition was the first edition of the book with successive editions published by London's Country Life Limited in 1937 and 1951.
