Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating and turbulent world of the Progressive Party, a political force that emerged in the early 20th century in response to the growing concerns about the power of big business and the perceived corruption of traditional political parties. The author, who was deeply involved in the movement, provides a firsthand account of the party's rise and fall, from its origins in 1912 to its demise in 1916. The book explores the complex interplay between personalities, ideologies, and political strategies within the party, highlighting the clashes between figures like Theodore Roosevelt and Robert La Follette. Through an intimate portrait of the author's own journey, the reader gains an understanding of the political and economic issues that fueled the progressive movement, including the fight for conservation and the debate over the role of government in regulating monopolies. By offering a unique perspective from someone who was actively involved in the Progressive Party, this book sheds light on a pivotal period in American political history, revealing the inner workings of the movement and the challenges it faced in its quest for social and political reform. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition, First Printing -- warmly inscribed by editor Helene Maxwell Hooker to activist Fola La Follette -- of this long-in-germination history of America's Progressive Party in the period 1912-1916. The history was compiled and largely written, but never completed, by period activist Amos R.E. Pinchot. Pinchot had insider access, was well acquainted with such leading Progressives as former President Theodore Roosevelt and Wisconsin Progressive Robert La Follette, and included personal observations and impressions as part of his work. Historian Helene Maxwell Hooker whipped Pinchot's material into shape for publication while also contributing an extended introduction and extensive footnotes. (One is attempted to describe her a co-author). Warmly inscribed by Helen Maxwell Hooker to Fola La Follette on the front endpaper. Fola La Follette was Gov./Sen. La Follette's daughter and a Broadway actress as well as political activist. Fola receives a major shout-out in the acknowledgments section as well as a further acknowledgment in the p. 273 footnote mentioned in the inscription. 305 pages. Has a previous owner name stamped on the front pastedown page. The dust jacket has edge wear including a shallow chip at the bottom edge of the spine. Signed by Author(s).…
