Soft cover. Condizione: As New. ~ First and only issue of this magazine of the first Portuguese modernism, which appeared with the Algarve futurist artist Carlos Filipe Porfírio as its official director, while who really directed it was the painter Guilherme de Santa-Rita (Santa-Rita Pintor). Texts by Almada Negreiros, Fernando Pessoa, Mário de Sá-Carneiro, Bettencourt Rebello, Raul Leal, translations of texts of Italian futurist Marinetti and the "Futurist Manifesto of Lust" (Manifeste futuriste de la luxure) by Valentine de Saint-Point, poems in French by Guillaume Apollinaire and Blaise Cendrars and also the "Futurist Ultimatum to the Portuguese Generations of the 20th Century", text read by Almada in a Futurist soirée that took place on 14 April 1917 at the Teatro República in Lisbon. However, the most famous "specimen" is «Ultimatum» by Álvaro de Campos (heteronym of Fernando Pessoa) which, though not pro-German (being anti everything, Allied and German), contains caustic slurs on the Allies, reason why, having appeared in the booksellers' windows on October 31st 1917, was seized two days later by the police ~ This edition includes two very important studies on Portuguese Futurism, one by Nuno Júdice: "The Futurism in Portugal" (12 pp.), and one by Teolinda Gersão: "For the Study of Literary Futurism in Portugal" (20 pp.) ~ Publisher's wrappers ~ XL+42p ~ 32x23x1cm. ~ As New, just an imperceptible wrinkle at spine bottom ~ LANGUAGE: Português & Français / Portuguese Literature / Futurism / Avant-garde // We accept PayPal & EU bank transfer in EUROS //. Soft cover. Condizione: As New. ~ COMPLETE RUN of the most famous magazine of the first Portuguese Modernism. The first issue appeared in March 1915 and the second in June, and it was the last. The third, to appear in October 1917, was never published, although the uncorrected page proofs of Orpheu 3 printed in July 1917 and reproduced in this edition have been fortunately preserved. In addition to these, the last 8 pages of this third tract include: 1) a fragment of «Saudação a Walt Whitman» by Álvaro de Campos that Pessoa never got to finish although he had announced its publication in Orpheu 3, but which is missing in the typographic proofs; and 2) the poem by Camilo Pessanha «Os violoncelos» that Pessoa had expressed the intention of including in a relevant place in Orpheu 3. This is how Pessoa's initial project for Orpheu 3 has been reconstructed. This edition is enriched with reproductions of 4 cubist paintings by Santa-Rita Pintor in Orpheu 2 and another 4 works by Amadeu de Souza Cardoso in Orpheu 3. ~ Wrappers. Orpheu 1: Cover originally designed by José Pacheco. Orpheu 3: Cover designed by João Louro (1963) for this edition ~ 2f+83p; 2f+85-164p; 165-227p+[8]p ~ 24x16x2cm. ~ As New, fitted within the original thin film protectors ~ LANGUAGE: Português / Portuguese Literature / Modernism / Avant-garde // We accept PayPal & EU bank transfer in EUROS //.
