The amateur Johann Heinrich Seyffert, the future master horologist Johann Christian Fried…rich Gutkaes and the successful watch manufacturer Ferdinand Adolph Lange represent this development from the first precision watches to the high-quality serial production of pocket watches. Decisive technical innovations can be traced back to Paris and London, the watchmaking centers of the 18th and early 19th centuries, while the French-speaking western part of Switzerland perfected a production system based on a division of labor. Lange successfully carried out these standards of international watchmaking in the Saxon town of Glashütte, and his acclaim is also indebted to the existence of the Mathematisch- Physikalischer Salon. As a site used for observing astronomy, the Salon was dependent on the accuracy of time measurement and served as an authoritative interface in which scientific needs and technical skills were bound together.; Anlässlich des 200. Geburtstags von Ferdinand Adolph Lange zeichnen die Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden in einer Ausstellung die Geschichte der Präzisionsuhrmacherei in Sachsen nach. Der Amateur Johann Heinrich Seyffert, der zünftige Uhrmeister Johann Christian Friedrich Gutkaes und der erfolgreiche Uhrenfabrikant Ferdinand Adolph Lange stehen stellvertretend für die Entwicklung von den ersten Präzisionsuhren bis zur hochwertigen Serienproduktion von Taschenuhren. Die entscheidenden technischen Innovationen lassen sich bis Paris und London, den Uhrenzentren des 18. und frühen 19. Jahrhunderts, zurückverfolgen, während die Westschweiz ein arbeitsteiliges Fertigungssystem perfektionierte. The first edition of this richly… illustrated history and catalogue of antique tools and instruments from the Nessi collection, spanning the Renaissance to the mid-19th century. Luigi Nessi is an architect whose collections have been displayed at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan and the Museum der Kulturen in Basel. 175 colour plates and 133 illustrations. Collated complete. Six historians have contributed to this book. Claudine Cartier is Head Curator at the Inspection générale des musées, with particular responsibility for industrial and craft museums. Alessandro Cesati has been active in research and study of the applied arts for many years, with a special interest in metal objects. Marie-Veronique Clin is the curator of the Musée d"Histoire de la Médecine in Paris. Peter Plassmayer is the curator and director of the Clock and Watch Collection at the Dresden Institute of Mathematics and Physics. Richard J.
