Same owner's extensive notation regarding family relation mentioned in book all handwritten in green ink on front pastedown; front endpapers toned from laid-in newspaper clipping with impression from removed tape strip; owner's pencil inscription on front free endpaper; occasional ink and pencil check marks at fore-edge margins with marginalia found upon a quick perusal on pages 82, 100, 103, and 111; some soiling to rear endpapers. The reminiscences of William Thomas Poague who served four years in the artillery of the Army of Northern Virginia in the Civil War. His first service was with the Rockbridge Artillery, which he commanded from April 1862 to April 1863. After Chancellorsville he ws promoted to lieutenant. colonel. His manuscript diary was discovered by Monroe Cockrell who attended VMI during the period that Poague was treasurer of that institution. Though the jacket boldly proclaims "First Time Published", it was actually first issued by an obscure publisher in 1957.
