Two vintage reference photographs from the 1975 short film, one showing an animation used in the film, the other showing director Lotte Reiniger at work on a silhouette form. Annotations in manuscript ink regarding cropping on the verso. Reiniger was a pioneer of scherenschnitte, the German art of silhouette, heavily inspired by the ancient Chinese art of paper cutting and silhouette puppetry.
