Captain Pollard (1888-1966) was "Late of the Staff of the Chief of Police, Ireland," and if one can quibble with his political point of view (one chapter is titled "Psychology of Irish Crime"), one cannot dispute his close knowledge… of the scene. He served in the Royal Irish Constabulary during the Irish War of Independence and conducted at least one disinformation campaign that was exposed. In 1936, he would help precipitate the Spanish Civil War by transporting Franco to Tetuan. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. An uncommon title that is a primary source on British intelligence activity at the time. Bright orange ribbed cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text, very bright; 324 pages with an index and several interesting appendices (such as the Oath of the Irish Republican Brotherhood). Mildly bumped, with one rear corner creased. The spine is a bit faded, and there is typical spotting to the endpapers and edges of the pages. There is a previous-owner bookplate on the front paste-down. Lacking the dustwrapper.; in an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
