L' auteur Alfred Potier de Courcy (1816 à 1888) fut un assureur du dix neuvième siècle administrateur de la Compagnie d'assurances générales et créateur de caisses de prévoyance. Il publia de nombreux ouvrages qui se rapportent aux statistiques (essai sur les lois du hasard), aux assurances-vie (précis d'assurances-vie, impôts et assurances-vie), au droit maritime (questions de droit maritime) ; il écrivit également des romans et essais. Il se préoccupa des questions de prévoyance, de pensions et retraites et contribua à la création d'une caisse de prévoyance pour les employés de la Compagnie d'Assurances générales). En 1879 il fonda la Société de secours aux familles des marins français naufragés. Edition Originale de 1874 par Armand-Anger à Paris, broché avec une couverture souple , format in 12, 67 pages.
