As people enter old age, they begin to experience associated changes in their physical, mental and social health. Old age is usually connected with dif…ferent types of problems encountered by the aged physical diseases, psychological illness and adjustment problems are common during this phase of life. The quality of life of non-institutionalized elderly was more than compared to institutionalized elderly. The elderly living in the community had greater psychological and social relationships than the institutionalized elderly. Loneliness was more among the institutionalized elderly than among the non-institutionalized elderly. Depression was associated with loneliness in institutionalized elderly. The elderly are at risk for loneliness, and depression and interventions to promote social connectedness are needed to directly address this problem. Intervention programme such as preventive lifestyle-oriented intervention is helpful in improving the well-being of the elderly. One-to-one contact and group activity had the highest impact on social connectedness.

Les personnes âgées vivant dans la communauté ont davantage de relations psychologiques et sociales que les personnes âgées institutionnalisées. La solitude était plus importante chez les personnes âgées institutionnalisées que chez les personnes âgées non institutionnalisées. La dépression est associée à la solitude chez les personnes âgées institutionnalisées. Les personnes âgées sont exposées au risque de solitude, et la dépression ainsi que les interventions visant à promouvoir les liens sociaux sont nécessaires pour traiter directement ce problème. Un programme d'intervention tel qu'une intervention préventive axée sur le mode de vie est utile pour améliorer le bien-être des personnes âgées. Les contacts individuels et les activités de groupe ont le plus grand impact sur le lien social.

Un programma di intervento come quello preventivo orientato allo stile di vita è utile per migliorare il benessere degli anziani. Il contatto individuale e l'attività di gruppo hanno avuto il massimo impatto sul legame sociale.
