Five poems that originally appeared in the pamphlet *The Negro Mother and Other Poems*, that was also published by the Golden Stair Press, here printed in five decorated broadsides each containing a single poem. Printed in black on off-white paper. A little toning at the extremities of each sheet, a couple of very tiny tears, overall near fine or better. The broadsides measure as follows: 15¾" x 12"; 12" x 18"; 12" x 18"; 12 x 18", and 7½" x 18". The broadsides were sold by Hughes for a brief time at his speaking engagements. These copies are in the original first state (some examples have been reported highlighted by Prentiss Taylor, or others, with watercolors).
