Illustrations include an ancient Egyptian pottery from a tomb, Chinese bottles, blue glazed pottery, Celtic pottery found in Staffordshire, Roman bowls of Samian ware, a Saxon jug, jar, and pitcher, Romano-British ware, an Anglo-Norman jar and ware, the decoration from Cruden's chapel showing Saracenic design, a tile from Chertsey Abbey, oviform majolica vase, a tile from Malvern Abbey, the Raphael and Fornarina plate, Faenza fruit dish ornamented with Amorini trophies and arabesques, a Palissy dish of his earliest ware, Posset pot from the 15th century, Staffordshire ware from the 17th century, a Staffordshire jug and saucer, Josiah Wedgwood's first tea pot, Elers-ware tea pot, a Wedgewood-ware medallion of Wesley, cream-ware twig basket and bread dish, medallion of Thomas Bentley, Mrs. Wedgwood medallion, cameos by Wedgwood, etc. Housed in protective mylar report cover with spine sleeve. The recently - deceased antiquarian bookseller William Gowans, New York City, and the various works of interest found among his inventory. Illustrations are generally taken from old books, and include an extract from Durer's Triumphal Arch, The Emperor Maximilian from Durer's Triumphal Car, ornamental letters from the Playing Boys alphabet, page ornaments from Basle Books about 1530, a boat propelled by wheel after a 1552 woodcut, a Virginia Lady by Vecellio, 1590, the mark of the printer Sessa, of Venice, and portraits of Melanchthon, by Lucas Cranach, Erasmus, by Deutsch, after Holbein, and Bilibald Pirkheimer, by Tobias Stimmer, after Durer. Housed in protective mylar report cover.
