There is a 1 and 1/2 closed tear in the front cover along the bottom edge, near the spine. The corners or edges of the first several pages at the beginning and end of the text are very subtly moisture stained. Subjects include Hunter Creek, Minook Creek Group, and Baker Creek Group.

A geological report about the Fortymile Quadrangle of the Yukon-Tanana region in Alaska. This report was made under the direction of George Otis Smith, Director of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and was based on the mapping completed by author L. M. Prindle. Prindle mapped the region in question from 1903-1907. The Preface notes that this particular report is part of a series that shows regions in the shape of a quadrangle (preferred by traditional USGS practices) and is the first to include the geological reconnaissance map on the same scale as the topographic map. Sections of text are brief but address a diverse variety of subtopics relating to the region. Reports like these were generally made with the economic prospects of the natural resources in mind. Among the subtopics discussed are a topographic sketch; relief; drainage; climate and vegetation; transportation; international boundary; geologic sketch; stratigraphy; alluvial deposits; structure; igneous rocks; origin of the gold; geologic history; gold placers in Fortymile area, Walker Fork, Poker Creek, Davis Creek, Wade Creek, Chicken Creek and vicinity, Napoleon Creek, Franklin Creek, Canyon Creek and its tributaries, Bars and benches of the Fortymile, Eagle area, and Seventymile area; mining methods, and production.
