Johann Baptist von Pronath (1757-1839) war eines der 16 Mitglieder der bayerischen Landschaftsverordnung. Er wehrte sich noch im selben Jahr mit einer Broschüre "Berichtigung der Piece: Charakterzüge des bürgerlichen Verordneten P. von St." Als Landschaftsverordneter unterstützte er den vergeblichen Versuch der Vertreter der bayerischen Landstände, die geplante Säkularisation der bayerischen Klöster durch den Kurfürsten zu verhindern. 1802 erwarb er von dem verarmten Reichsgrafen Christian Adam August von Königsfeld das Schloss Offenberg und später auch grössere Teile der Besitzungen und Gebäude des nahegelegenen, 1803 säkularisierten Benediktinerklosters Metten. 1813 heiratete er seine zweite Frau Maximiliane (1780?1860) aus der altadeligen, im 17. Jahrhundert aus Italien eingewanderten Familie Spreti. Er wurde darauf selbst auch in den Adelsstand aufgenommen und durfte sich nun von Pronath nennen. Das mittlerweile fast vollständig in seinem Besitz befindliche Kloster Metten begann er wieder mit Benediktinermönchen zu besiedeln.
