Édition originale de la traduction française de la dernière oeuvre du grand dramaturge norvégien Henrik Ibsen avec envoi du traducteur : « A son Excellence / Monsieur le Prince / Léon Ouroussoff / hommage de profond / et respectueux dévoue- / ment de MProzor ». Aucun grand papier ne fut apparemment tiré. Henrik Johan Ibsen (1828 - 1906) est un dramaturge majeur du XIXème siècle, directeur de théâtre et poète norvégien. Il est souvent mentionné comme « le père du réalisme » et est l'un des fondateurs du Modernisme, au théâtre. Ses oeuvres majeures incluent Brand, Peer Gynt, un Ennemi du Peuple, Empereur et Galiléen, la Maison de Poupée, Hedda Gabler, Les Revenants, Le Canard sauvage, Rosmersholm et Solness le constructeur. Il est, après Shakespeare, le dramaturge le plus fréquemment joué au monde, et la Maison de Poupée est devenue la pièce la plus jouée au monde au début du XXe siècle. Plusieurs de ses dernières pièces furent considérées à l'époque comme scandaleuses alors que le théâtre s'attachait à une morale stricte en ce qui concerne la vie de famille et la propriété. Ainsi, elles étudient la réalité cachée derrière la façade, en en révélant plus que de besoin pour ses contemporains. Ibsen fait preuve d'un oeil critique et d'une pensée libre, démontant les conditions de vie et les tenants de la morale. Il est aujourd'hui considéré comme l'un des plus grands dramaturges de tradition européenne, décrit comme un « profond poète romantique, regardé comme le meilleur depuis Shakespeare ». Il influença de nombreux autres auteurs : Oscar Wilde, Arthur Miller, James Joyce ou encore Miroslav Krleza. Maurice Prozor (1849 - 1928), écrivain et diplomate de l'empire russe, fut secrétaire d'ambassade à Berne dès 1887 et traduisit avec sa femme Les Revenants. C'est en 1890 qu'il rencontra Henrik Ibsen à Munich et traduisit Hedda Gabler. Il traduira dès lors la majorité de ses oeuvres mais aussi celles de Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, Herman Bang et Léon Tolstoï. De 1892 à 1896, il fut nommé diplomate à Saint-Pétersbourg, puis de 1896 à 1897, consul général à Vienne, Genève et Lausanne. PROVENANCE : Prince Lev Pavlovitch Urusov (??? ???????? ??????, 1839 - 1928), avec ses initiales « L. O. » poussées en queue de dos. Il signait lui-même en français « Léon Ouroussov ». Diplomate de l'Empire russe, ambassadeur de Russie en Roumanie de 1880 à 1886, en Belgique de 1886 à 1897 et conjointement à partir de 1891 au Luxembourg, en France entre 1897 et 1904, en Italie de 1904 à 1905, en Autriche-Hongrie de 1905 à 1910, il fut nommé grand chambellan de la couronne de Russie en 1910. Il avait rang d'Oberhofmeister, deuxième classe de la Table des Rangs. Henri Carret, avec son ex-libris gravé représentant une vue de Notre-Dame de Paris avec en premier plan les boîtes des bouquinistes.
