Die Froben-Ausgabe von 1534 bzw. die vorliegende von 1540 zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass hier erstmals die spätantiken Übersetzungen durch griechische Handschriften korrigiert und ergänzt wurden. Neben den "Antiquitates Iudaicae" sind auch "De bello Iudaico", "Contra Apionem und "De imperio rationis" enthalten. Bei dem beigebundenen Werk handelt es sich um eine Ausgabe der kirchenhistorischen Schriften "Scriptores ecclesiasticos" aus dem Kölner Verlag des Jasper von Gennep, die fälschlicherweise Hegesippus zugeschrieben wurden. His works are main sources next to the Bible for the history and antiquity of ancient Palestine. Hegesippus's, or pseudo-Hegesippus, real identity is unknown. Over time, numerous hypotheses have been advanced on the identity of the author, the latest theories seem to agree on an attribution to the young Sant' Ambrogio Bibliothecae Rheno-Trajectinae, p. 422.Not in Adams.…
