Sadlier & Co. of New York City, a bookbinding and publishing house producing predominantly Catholic material. The address listed on the business card, 31 Barclay St., dates it to between…1862 and Cullen's death in 1874. The New York Tablet(1858-1881) was a Catholic periodical managed by Irish immigrant author Mary Anne Sadlier, wife of publisher James Sadlier. The Sadliers were prominent in New York's Irish Catholic society, and their friends included Archbishop John Hughes, Canadian politician Thomas D'Arcy McGee, and activist and Catholic convert Orestes Brownson. Besides his own bookstore in Jersey City, John Cullen traveled to promote the Tablet; he died suddenly while canvassing for the publication in Rhode Island.[1] [1] "Burial of John Ignatius Cullen," The Jersey Journal, December 15, 1874, 4. .
